About this Event
This spring, we lost a wonderful musician, Larry Loden. Mr. Loden had a long and distinguished career as a saxophonist, band director, and music educator. He taught private saxophone students at UIW for over fifteen years and played all the woodwinds in the UIW Cardinal Jazz Band for many years. He held a BM in Music Education and a Master of Music Education / Woodwind Performance degree from Texas State University.
Over his career, he taught music at every level: from elementary school to college, in public and private schools, as a band director, and as a private music instructor. He conducted school jazz bands and many concert bands across the country, including the US Army Pacific Area Headquarters Band during his military service.
The list of entertainers and musical artists Mr. Loden has performed with is exceptionally long and diverse, but here are just a few: Bob Hope, Jerry Lewis, Rich Little, Debbie Reynolds, Tom Jones, Natalie Cole, Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis, The Supremes, Ray Charles, Arturo Sandoval, Tito Puente Jr., Sarah Vaughn, Nancy Wilson, Kenny Rodgers, Charlie Rich, Ringling Bros, & Barnum & Bailey Circus Band, Glenn Miller Band, The Atlanta Symphony, The San Antonio Symphony, and many more!
On Facebook, there has been an outpouring of comments from the San Antonio music community, and all the comments mention the same three things: Larry was an amazing musician, he is one of the nicest people you could imagine, and we will never forget him!
On Thursday, May 2nd, the UIW Cardinal Jazz Band will perform a concert in his honor entitled Remembering Larry Loden.
