The Office of Alumni Relations, alongside the UIW Ettling Center, are excited to give back to our community as part of Homecoming 2024.

Join us on campus to learn about three local community partners and volunteer your time to help with each of their needs. Learn more about our the community partners and their activities below:

• Gardopia Gardens
  • Gardopia Gardens is a 501(c)3 nonprofit agency created to address the growing epidemic of obesity-related diseases and enviornmental issues through teaching best practices to ensure sustainability within educational, commercial, and residential communities. In honor of Arbor Day, Gardopia Gardens will have volunteers assist in tree planting, planting in community gardens, and creating new pots and plants to be donated to the San Antonio community.
• The Village at Incarnate Word
  • Founded in 1988 by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, The Village provides a spiritually enriched retirement community for people of all faiths. Volunteers will spend quality time with the residents of The Village through engaging activities such as dialogue, board games, and dancing.
• Men of Honor and Women of Power (Sidney Lanier High School)
  • The Men of Honor organization has been a supporter of Children's Cancer Awareness since 2012, as one of its founding members has a twin cousin who passed away at six years old from cancer. The organization holds an annual community service project supporting the San Antonio Methodist Children's Cancer Hospital through the "Go Gold" Christmas Toy Drive for patients dealing with cancer. Volunteers will help prepare toys to be delivered to cancer patients over the Christmas break. If volunteers would like to bring a toy to donate to this cause, please make sure the gift is able to fit inside a drawstring bag.
