Saxophonist Natalio Sued, from Argentina, and bassist Andrew Bergmann, from Massachusetts, met in 2000 while both studying in the Netherlands at the Amsterdam Conservatory. They would play together in various bands, including Bergmann's 10-piece original jazz-rock project Ghorar Deem Express. Later (after Bergmann had moved back to the US) drummer Gustavo Nandayapa came to Amsterdam to study at the Conservatory and began his own collaboration with Sued, a relationship that further blossomed once Nandayapa had moved home to become one of Mexico's most sought-after drummers and Sued began to visit Mexico City and contribute to its remarkable jazz scene. Guitarist Bruce Saunders, a professor at the Berklee School of Music and the University of Texas in Austin, began playing with Bergmann about 10 years ago. While bouncing endlessly between Brooklyn, Boston, and Austin, Saunders has performed with a myriad of fantastic jazz artists, including all-time greats such as Jack DeJohnette, Dave Holland, and Bill Stewart.
Dr. Andrew Bergmann joined the UIW family in 2023 as our coordinator for the Music Industry Studies. Our UIW Student Jazz Combo will be opening for the group. Come join us for a fun night of music.
Admission Free and open to the public.
